In Melcom’s quest to bring shopping to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian, another Mega Store was inaugurated at Tema on the 10th of January 2011.
This is the 2nd Melcom Plus Store, after the opening of the 1st Melcom store in Accra – Kaneshie in January 2010. This brings the total number of Melcom stores to 23.
There were several important dignitaries present at the inauguration. Amongst them were; The T.M.A Chief Executive Officer (Mr. Robert Kempes Ofosuware) who was also The Guest of Honour, Tema Regional Police Commander(Augustine Gyening A.S.P), The Tema Chief (Mantse – Nii Adjei Kraku II), Chairman of National Development Planning Commission (P.V. Obeng) , The Press, various Bank officials and other special guests.
The occasion was started with a Muslim and Christian prayer.
Some of the activities marking the occasion includes;
Traditional dance(Kete) by the Naposo Pure African Dance Theatre,
Indian dance by Melcom Staffs,
A raffle draw competition, M.C (Nathaniel Attoh) created humour to entertain the audience and
Mr. Robert Kempes Ofosuware (T.M.A Chief Executive Officer) unveiled the plaque.
In a speech given by the Chairman of the Melcom Group of Companies(Mr. Bhagwan Khubchandani), he said even though Melcom has won several Awards as the Nation’s Best Retail outlet, Melcom will not be complacent and will continue to strive to bring bigger and better stores, and offer larger variety at affordable prices. The Chairman further explained that, severe competition has charged up Melcom to offer better services and to go the extra mile to serve and ensure that the customer is always satisfied. He acknowledged that, the maximum efforts and dedication of Melcom Staff is very much required to achieve these goals.
Mr. Bhagwan Khubchandani (Chairman of Melcom Group of Companies), also stated that Melcom plans to open two more shops (Madina & Achimota) by April 2011, and plans to open Malls (Melcom Plus) at Kumasi and Takoradi in the near future.
